Enterprise Travel Policy Cost Governance Model
Strategic Finance Initiative - 2,069+ Annual Travel Legs
Role
Consultant (Finance Operations)
Industry
Corporate Finance / FP&A (Cost Governance & Policy Modeling)
Scope
Cost governance modeling, ticket-level data restructuring and executive policy impact simulation.

Strategic Objective
Architect and deploy a financial simulation framework to quantify enterprise-wide exposure associated with implementing a Business Class upgrade policy for long-haul travel.
The model informed executive policy discussions by forecasting incremental spend under alternative eligibility thresholds (10+ vs 12+ hours).
Complexity & Data Risk
The travel dataset contained:
Multi-leg ticket segmentation causing duplicated cost entries
Mixed currencies
Inconsistent geographic formatting
Non-standardized duration records
Without restructuring, cost exposure projections would have been materially overstated.
What I Architected
Data Governance Framework
Reconstructed 2,069+ annual travel legs into controlled ticket-level financial architecture
Eliminated duplication risk inherent in multi-leg ticket accounting
Standardized duration metrics for threshold logic integrity
Designed repeatable ETL process via Power Query
Policy Simulation Engine
Built a dynamic, parameter-driven cost model that:
Segmented flights into duration exposure tiers
Applied adjustable premium uplift assumptions (2.0x–3.0x multiplier)
Calculated incremental exposure per eligible ticket
Aggregated total incremental annual cost
Quantified % increase vs baseline spend
The model supported rapid scenario testing without structural redesign.
Executive-Level Output
Delivered decision-grade summary:
Policy Threshold | Eligible Legs | Incremental Cost ($) | % Increase vs Baseline |

Enabled leadership to:
Evaluate cost sensitivity to eligibility changes
Understand non-linear exposure growth
Assess budget impact prior to implementation
Business Outcome
Quantified enterprise exposure across 2,069+ travel legs
Prevented misstatement risk from duplicated leg costs
Influenced executive-level travel policy evaluation
Established reusable governance modeling framework
